PREPRODUCTION CHECKLIST

 

Basic Drum Check

New heads 3-5 days before session

Tune kit a day or two before recording date

Extra heads in case one breaks. (Iron out old head dents if you ‘re on a budget)

Extra snare drum if you got one.

Remove all rattles, squeaks and unwanted noises from kit before you arrive at the studio.

Extra sticks.

Tuning Key.

Drum Carpet.

Let the studio know if you need a click track, triggered samples, gates or if you kit is excessively large.

Please do not play drums while microphones are being place on the kit. If any of the drums microphones are in your way Do not play until the microphone are placed in a proper manner by someone for the studio staff.

Basic Guitar & Bass Check

Bring at least 2 axes and more if you can. -New strings the night before.

Adjust the bridge after you put on new strings. If you don’t know how, call your guitar doctor.

One set of replacement strings plus extra high G/B/E strings

Batteries. (9volt for stomp boxes)

All Allen wrenches for locking trem’s

Tuner

Amps and speaker

All AC power cables

Power supple for foot pedals

Foot pedals

One week prior to recording date, inspect all guitars and amps for possible problems IE: hum, buzzing frets, faulty input/output jacks, dead batteries, shorted wiring, intermittent guitar cables, bad tubes or anything that you know has caused problems before but have now mysteriously disappeared.

MIDI /KEYBOARDS/MISC.

 

What type of sync are you using?

Do you need a computer? If so what type?

What type of MIDI interface do you use?

What are the BPMS? Do you have a tempo map?

Don't forget: Computer Discs, Back up discs, MIDI Cables, Operation Manuals, Power Supplies, AC Cables,

Do you need a music stand?

Do you have typed lyrics? These are helpful.

Please give the engineer a breakdown of your keyboard set-up.
